September

Life is to be refined,
the notion of refinement is to be redone,
Doing it with him is hard,
Like catching a fly in the living room.
*
Tree leaves are still green at Hyde Park,
A dog begins to bark at central park,
In the casket of the New York night,
everyone sees the curtained light.
*
School starts with stretched arms,
Wings of humming birds,
In St. Patrick's Cathedral,
Heads lowered to whisper prayers.
*
Umbrellas are held by shaking hands,
Mushroom caps pop up in rainy grass,
Couples smell food
while repeating something old and good.
